16 Pies That Will Feed a Crowd-Slab Pies-Banana Cream-Strawberry-Apple-Peach and More

Believe it or not I was not aware that there were recipes out there for pies that you make in a big huge pan——big enough to feed a large crowd. Everyone gets a large square of pie and THEN……there are leftovers! (or maybe not depending on your crowd/family)   I was also happy to find recipes for some of MY favorite pies like banana cream pie and apple pie. Try some of the recipes below and then let me know how they turned out… YOU'RE WELCOME!!!

I'm not too crazy  about the name "Slab Pie"   Maybe we should come up with a different name. What do you think it should be? Leave your thoughts below and let's give  this delicious and amazing dessert a better name that "Slab Pie"  The Peach Slab Pie has refrigerated sugar cookie dough broken into coarse crumbs and sprinkled over the filling. YUM!!

I believe this Oreo slab pie is going to be a hit with everyone.  Who doesn't like Oreos. They may be the most popular store bought cookie ever!  The blueberry slab pie with the lattice crust is so beautiful that you might hate to cut into it.  Just take a photo before you do!

I'm thinking Thanksgiving and Christmas for the chocolate pecan pie.  I have a son-in-law who absolutely LOVES pecan pie. Oh Yum!

These two pies are just perfect for a summertime dessert.

Anything apple is my favorite. I love all the crumbly goodness on top of this Apple streusel pie.  Are you a fan of cherry pie?

There's just something about a creamy banana cream pie that is so yummy.  At Thanksgiving time that's the first choice for pie for my family. I think I'm going to make this "slab pie" first.  I also have a daughter who is "CRAZY" for nectarines. This might be her new favorite.

Here's another peach pie only this one has a lattice top (for those of you who prefer those).  The  Apricot cherry slab pie looks amazing and I love lemon meringue pie. I haven't tried the buttermilk slab pie yet.....have you? Is it yummy!

OUR FIRST name change is in....  Sheet Pie has been suggested. What do you think?

How to Make Summer Reading More Fun Plus Bookmarks for Boys and Girls

Summer is the perfect time for the kids to catch up on their reading. There's nothing like a summer afternoon and a good book.  When I was a kid I had health problems and I wasn't that active physically but what was active was my IMAGINATION!  I loved reading and I would let my imagination run wild in choosing what the characters in my books looked like and everything else in the book.  I would sit for literally hours reading my favorite books. It didn't matter if I was inside or outside. I also LOVED, LOVED, LOVED going to my public library. The children's section was in the basement and it was such a fabulous place.  To me the idea of the library letting me go in and come out with as many books as I wanted was so great!

When my children got old enough we would hang out at the library together and bring home armfuls of books. Now that my children have children of their own they are keeping up the tradition of visiting the library. The love of reading is such a great family tradition.

Now how do we make summer reading fun for the kids? How do we get them to read?

Take the kids to the library and help them to discover what type of books speak to them. It may be mysteries (which was what I loved) or  books about sports, dinosaurs, flowers, coding, flower arranging, jewelry making and other fun things.  Make the trip to the library a reward for completing their chores etc. There's a place in the library for everyone in your family, even you.

Ask the librarian what books are popular with the kids in their age group and what their peers are checking out. Librarians can be sooooo helpful and they are there to assist you in any way.

Select a wide variety of reading material every time you go to the library to expose them to more things. Even magazines and comic books. Books about building, art and crafts, astronomy or cooking would definitely be a great way to go. They may have a hidden talent that could be developed this summer.

Find fun places for the kids to read. A designated reading corner with a pillow and blanket would work nicely. Reading Teepees are cool too. Reading outside with a blanket on the grass is a fun change of pace. Even putting a blanket on the trampoline would be a nice reading place.

Reading to your preschoolers is the perfect way to develop a love for reading and it's great quality time together.  Your kids will always have a great memory of reading with you.

Now that you have the kids reading and enjoying it, how about giving them a fun reading reward? We have bookmarks for girls (above) and for boys (below) Kids LOVE bookmarks and how else are they going to mark their place in the books?

We designed these bookmarks in colors that the boys would like.  Who knows…..they might just make reading even more fun!

The Best Tip for Softening Butter Quickly Plus the Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

When I saw this tip about softening butter and I just had to try it. It's perfect for the times when you need softened butter quickly but don't want it melted.  At our house someone is always "Can we make cookies"  and of course the butter is never soft and ready to use, so we have to wait until it gets soft and who can wait that long when you're wanting a warm and delicious chocolate chip cookie right now?

Here's the process:  Fill a pan with water and bring it to a boil, you could even let it boil for a minute or so.  Then fill a cup or a mason jar with the water.  Let the water sit in the cup/jar for a minute until the jar gets really hot!  Then dump out the water and place the cup over the butter and onto a plate.

Fresh out of the fridge

Now it's softened

In the first experiment I took the butter out of the paper wrapper.  There was a little bit of melted butter on the plate when all was said and done but the butter was definitely softened and ready to use.

In the second experiment we left the paper on the butter and it worked out just fine. That's the method I would recommend, but with either method you get soft butter.  It may take up to 5 minutes or so but that is so much quicker than just letting it sit out and soften that way.

Here are the cookies that we made with the softened butter.  They are called the Ultimate Chocolate Chip cookies. I love this recipe because it only calls for 1 cube of butter. Most recipes call for 2 cubes of butter and that can get expensive. I use a small ice cream scoop and can get about 35 cookies out of this recipe. It is such a yummy cookie.  I've practically got the recipe memorized I've made it so many times. I'm so happy to have finally found a recipe that turns out so nice and tastes so good!

Awesome Onion Rings You've Got To Try—Super Easy Using Vidalia Onions From Georgia

I just made a batch of these AWESOME Onion Rings. They are definitely a hit with the family. After soaking them in buttermilk you dip them in a flour/spice mixture and then into a flour/milk/egg batter.  Then you dip them in bread crumbs, even Panko bread crumbs, and they are absolutely delicious!   I like to make up the "FRY SAUCE" that is so famous here in Utah to go with our onion rings.  I put some mayonnaise in a bowl and then squirt on some ketchup and mix it up. Sometimes I add some buttermilk to the mixture.  If you don't have buttermilk you can just add a teaspoon or so to a half a cup of milk and let it sit. After it has sat for a few minutes you can add it to the ketchup/mayo mixture. It will be delicious!!!

The only onion that I cook with these days are the Vidalia Onions from Georgia. Every year at this time the sweet Vidalia onions are harvested and ready to buy.  I get mine at Costco where a 10 lb bag is only $7.00.  Vidalia onions are sweeter than other onions and we love them.  I'll purchase 4 or 5 bags and cut each onion up into small pieces and freeze in individual ziplock freezer bags so we can cook with these awesome onions all year long. So this time of year it is "Onion Rings" time for us.  We use the fresh onions and not ones that we have frozen for the onion rings. I like to cut the rings up in ½" rings instead of a thinner ring. You've got to try this recipe if you are a fan of onion rings. They will taste just as good, if not better, than restaurant onion rings.  Let me know how the they turn out in comments below.

How I was able to Successfully Clean Marks, Crayon Marks and Dirt off of My Toys including My Fisher Price Dream Dollhouse and All Accessories

I bought this Fisher Price Grand Dollhouse back in 1996. I have loved it ever since. It has definitely seen it's share of playtime with 8 different grandkids playing with it.  It is still in great condition with the lithos/stickers still looking good. However, sometime along the way one of our "budding artists" decided they would add some of their crayon artwork to the house!  As I looked at it I thought it would never come off and would have to look like that forever. Then I decided to try to clean it with my Simple Green cleaner. (I am not being compensated for mentioning this product in any way whatsoever)  I've used Simple Green to clean toys in the past and it worked really well so I thought I would try it on the dollhouse.  I'm so HAPPY to say that I was able to remove Marks, Crayon Marks and Dirt from the house and the accessories.

Here are our before and after photos:

I was able to get ALL the crayon marks off. I was totally amazed and very HAPPY!!!

It was very easy to get the crayon marks off of the steps and they look brand new!

These yellow marks were the hardest to get off. Took a little more time and rubbing but they did come off and it looks great below.

These marks almost looked like marker but I can't be sure.

I would definitely recommend getting a bottle of this cleaning liquid, if not just for your toys.  It actually is a great cleaner in other ways too. My husband swears by it!

I am starting to let go of my Fisher Price toys that I bought in 1996-2000.  Most are in brand new condition-still wrapped in original bags, ever played with or even displayed.  You can find all my Discontinued Fisher Price toys plus a LOT of other mint in box (discontinued) toys in my eBay Shop.

You can buy Simple Green almost anywhere, definitely a good cleaning investment.

BELOW ARE SOME MORE PHOTOS of the Dollhouse

The floor looks brand new now!  Love the lamp in back of the couch.

This delightful crib plays music and is such a great piece for the nursery. It even includes the ever popular Rumple Bear toy.

The den is a comfy place for kids and dogs!

Wheeeee! A good push from Dad and the sky's the limit!

The refrigerator door opens as does the oven and cupboard doors.

This brand-new wardrobe, the hat and clothing  is in available in our eBay shop right now.

Checkers anyone?

Aahhhhh, a place for Mom to relax!
